INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

Instruction for the Authors of the Bulgarian Astronomical Journal

(V 6.0; March 13, 2009)

I. General form of the manuscript

   1. The manuscript (written in English, or in Bulgarian as exception), should be prepared by author(s) in LaTeX.  The page size of the journal is B5. Respective style, including examples, is given in Apinv2012.zip
2. The submitted text, and especially the abstract(s), should be edited precisely by author(s) to be clear and short. The English spelling should conform to the preferred spelling in the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary.
   3. The on-line submission, as ZIP or TGZ archive has to include LaTeX-file, EPS-files of the figures and complied PDF-file. It has to be sent at e-mail address journal@astro.bas.bg, or tsgeorg@astro.bas.bg or iliani@astro.bas.bg.
   4. In all cases the first part of the manuscript, including the title, names of the author(s), affiliation(s), e-mail address(es), paper type, abstract and key-words, should be written in English language. A list of possible paper types is given on this web site in "About", as well as in "Examples". The recommended form of the author's name is, e.g. Sandra M. Faber. The recommended key words are the same as in the journal Astronomy and Astrophysics. See also as examples already printed articles.
   5. The second part of the manuscript is the main text. It should be written in English language (or in Bulgarian as exception). When the main text is written in Bulgarian, this second part of the paper must be preceded by title, name of the author(s) and abstract, written in Bulgarian. Than the Bulgarian abstract must be exact translation of the English abstract (and vice versa).
6. When the main text is written in Bulgarian, the abstracts should be more extended, including eventually descriptions of the figures and tables.

II. Scientific contents of the text, abstract and title

1. The main text of the article should present clearly the information about the subject, including actuality, goal, data source, quality and reduction, result(s), interpretation and conclusion about future investigations. The text has to contain enough information to be understood generally by an astronomer with magister degree.
2. The citation style has to be like this in the journal Astronomy and Astrophysiscs.
3. The abbreviations or special notations that are not widely spread have to be described when they are used at first time in the text.
 4. The equations should be numbered sequentially on the left-hand side. Unnecessary vertical spreading of mathematical material should be avoided.
   5. References should be listed at the end of the paper in alphabetical order under the first author’s family name.
  6. The text of the abstract will be easy available in electronic form, being more important than the main text of the article. Therefore, the abstract should be enough full and able to elucidate briefly the goal, data, method and result(s) of the investigation, independently of the main paper text.
   7. The title of the paper is the most important part of the paper. It has to provide enough information about the subject. One typical example is: instead the short title "The pheno-menon Z And" the author has to write more descriptive, e.g. "Investigations of the eruptive activity of the cataclizmic double star Z Andromedae".
8. In the title of the paper only the proper names, such as Jupiter or Vega, should be written with capital letters.

III. Figures and Tables

1. All illustrations and tables should be referred as Figures and Tables, abbreviated to "Fig." and "Tab.", respectively.
2. Figure and table captions should be simple and clear, but enough full for further brief understanding the result inependently on the paper text.
3. Generally, the figures should be presented in gray scale or in black and white. Colour figures may be submitted and accepted, but the journal is planed to be black and white.
4. The figures should be with high contrast and/or enough bold lines and curves.
5. The height of the letters and numbers in the printed figures should be not less than the height of the figure caption text.
Concerning other cases, which are not covered here, the instructions of the journal Astronomy and Astrophysiscs are recommended as a rule.
